Our Green Apple Environmental Award
We won a gong!
More precisely, an 'International Bronze Green Apple Award for the Built Environment and Architecture,' for our work in 2004 refitting a listed building in Perth for Lakeland Limited.
The grade A listed building, designed by esteemed Scottish architect David Rhind, was constructed between 1846 and 1847 as the local headquarters of the (then) Central Bank.
The project was a sensitive and technically challenging project for both Lakeland Limited and Caledonia Contracts.
and we like a challenge...
So after undertaking major structural internal and external alterations, installation of lifts, and the renovation and restoration of the decorative cornicing and ceiling features, we handed the building back to the proprietors as a modern retail store which encompassed, enhanced and retained the architectural beauty of the original building.
Appropriately, for an environmental award, we sourced timber for the project from sustainable forests and employed specialist stone masons and carpenters to ensure integrity throughout the project.
The Green Apple Awards are presented annually to leading companies from all over Europe and Caledonia Contracts was one of fifty organisations from a total of 45 countries across the European continent to be recognised for their pro-active approach to protecting, preserving and enhancing our architectural heritage and built environment.

It usually takes main contractors a couple of projects to get what our shopfits are about. Caledonia listened to us and produced a store with the feel we expect, on time and within budget first time. I intend to work with them again in the near future.
